About The Grounded Space
Our Story
At The Grounded Space, we specialize in residential interior design, home organization, and sensory-conscious spaces for Chicago families and communities. Our approach goes beyond aesthetics, we create environments that offer a genuine sense of peace, safety, and belonging.
Every space is thoughtfully designed to reflect the people who live, work, and gather there. We blend beautiful design with practical functionality, incorporating calming color palettes, natural textures, intentional layouts, and sensory-conscious elements that support comfort, focus, and everyday living. We believe great design should make life easier. Whether we're refreshing a single room, organizing a home, or creating a sensory-supportive environment, our goal is to design spaces that work for the people who use them, not just spaces that look beautiful.
Inspired by lived experience and grounded in human-centered design, we understand that every client's needs are different. That's why we begin every project by listening. We take the time to understand your routines, your challenges, and your vision before creating a space that feels authentically yours.
At The Grounded Space, we don't just design interiors, we create places where families can rest, connect, grow, and thrive.

Our Mission & Design Philosophy

Through thoughtful collaboration and human-centered design, we create spaces that foster peace, connection, and a true sense of belonging.

Nikki Williams Rucker
Interior Designer & Sensory Space Consultant
I'm a wife, a mom of two, and a firm believer that the spaces we live, work, and gather in have a profound impact on our well-being. My journey into interior design became deeply personal as I learned to create sensory-supportive environments for my neurodivergent son. That experience transformed the way I think about design, not just as something beautiful, but as something that helps people feel safe, comfortable, and able to thrive.
Professionally, my background spans leadership, education, and human-centered design, giving me a unique perspective on how environments influence the way people learn, work, connect, and live. Whether I'm designing a home, office, classroom, or community space, my goal is always the same: to create spaces that are both functional and deeply personal.
At The Grounded Space, every project begins with listening. I believe the best spaces aren't designed around trends, they're designed around people.
Design for how spaces actually function.
